No. We recommend that you do not dye QUADRO indoor textiles after purchase. Because of the fiber blend and the temperature required to dye polyester, a uniform and lasting result cannot be reliably achieved.
The green roof textile (item number 00353), included, for example, in the Universal Construction Kit (item number 14830), and the green round textile (item number 00363), included, for example, in the Junior Construction Kit (item number 13820), are made from a high-quality blended fabric consisting of 65 percent polyester and 35 percent cotton. This blended fabric combines durability and dimensional stability with the elasticity required for assembly. The roof textile is stretched tightly over the correctly installed Angle Connectors in the roof structure. For the round textile, two Tubes or Curved Tubes are threaded through the side hems so that the textile sits taut between them and does not slip. This elasticity is necessary so that both textiles can be installed as described and remain taut afterward.
Polyester and cotton require different dyes. Standard dyes designed for use in washing machines work primarily on the cotton fibers. Dyeing the polyester portion would require a special dye and a dye bath maintained near 212 °F (100 °C) for an extended period. This is far above the specified maximum care temperature of 86 °F (30 °C) and can alter the fit, seams, fabric structure, and original color.
With green or gray indoor textiles, even darker target colors such as black or brown would therefore not produce reliable results. The original color would continue to affect the outcome, and the different fibers may absorb the dye differently. A uniform and lasting result therefore cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, we do not recommend any dye or dyeing method for QUADRO indoor textiles.
